My latest wreck ! gorgeous mid 19th cent.

Even with the wear you can still see the beauty of this quilt !
The fact it is quite densely quilted has contributed to it surviving and in the photographs the design is quite clear. It has a hole in the middle right through and there is quite a lot of wear , despite this I decided it needed a good soak in the bath and after a few changes of water I rolled it up and took it to the garden to drip.
I was rewarded with the colours I loved in it being much fresher and the whole thing looking much brighter and nice and clean.
The backing is gorgeous and quite early , I would think early to mid 19th.
I am going to try hanging it from a batten on my spare room wall where the red and white used to be, will let you see the result if it looks ok

  1. What a treasure. You can't help but notice the amazing quilting. Lucky you, lucky quilt.

  2. Absolutely gorgeous quilt Linda, I love the old fabrics and the dense quilting. What a lovely find.
